Death from gaming

20 year old Chris Staniforth died from a pulmonary embolism, this can happen by staying in the same position for hours on end, this could be anything from sitting at a desk all day to a long flight. In this case Chris would spend up to 12 hours playing his Xbox without regular breaks, this caused a clot to form in his left calf before moving up to his lungs where it caused a deadly blockage.

David Staniforth, his father is in the process of setting up an educational website to raise awareness among other hardcore gamers. Despite the recent loss of his son, David is not blaming video games for his son’s death as he said in an interview; “Don’t stop your child from playing games. They love doing it. It’s great for them,” he said. “It’s not to spoil the fun. Just be aware. Enjoy it. But take a break.”

Gaming related deaths are rather unusual in the UK, there are occasionally links drawn between death and games. However throughout Asia this is fairly common, there have been several reports of gamers collapsing from gaming for 15 hours plus. In South Korea one gamer died for playing for three days straight without any breaks.

  1. Unfortunate, yet I personally would find it impossible to stay up to 12 hours in from of a screen without taking a break, heck, I can't even read without having to take a break lol

  2. Looks impossible, but it sure is true. One thing I wanna know is, what game is he playing, before dying?
