Lenovo Start Bundling Third Party Windows 8 Start Menu With Systems

lenovo_pokki

According to TechPowerUp Lenovo has taken a drastic move with its Windows 8 systems to keep end users happy. Lenovo is the first major PC OEM to start bundling third-party Start Menu emulation software with its PCs. Lenovo have opted to use SweetLabs’ Pokki Custom UI suite and this adds a start menu and lets you boot straight into the desktop. Additionally the software gives you a Windows 7-style start menu that has pinned applications, a search system and power options.

Lenovo’s Pokki Custom UI suite implementation may come pre-installed or it may come on a disc as an optional extra. There will no doubt be a tonne of bloatware with the product as it has its own app store but it shows the extent of the discontent with Windows 8 when a major OEM like Lenovo would take such an option. Lenovo will implement the Pokki Custom UI suite on most of its ThinkPad, IdeaPad and IdeaCenter products. With Lenovo being the single largest PC OEM vendor this sends a clear and strong message to Microsoft.

  1. i still wouldn’t buy a Lenovo.
    Anything goes wrong, i know where it’s sent… i wouldn’t trust it 🙂

    1. My ThinkPad was sent to Texas for a repair of the track pad (only complain I’d had with it: the bottom left was “dead” as a doornail).

That being said, absolutely don’t trust Texas.

PS. Lenovo is in the process of building at least two finalization (final place for manufacture/assembly/packaging) plants in the United States.

      1. In the UK, they’re sent to MEDEON’s repair station… you know, that crappy horrible stuff you buy in Aldi stores.
I used to work there and it was ran on 0 hours contract staff and it bent every rule in the book.
I left because I wanted to give proper support, not the crap they were giving.

  2. Right.. and exactly how much use will this be come next month, after 8.1 has RTM’d?
