Lawnmower Man VR Series in the Works

Oculus, Vive, and PS VR be damned: everyone knows that the pinnacle of virtual reality was demonstrated in Brett Leonard’s 1992 cinematic masterpiece The Lawnmower Man. Thankfully, VR content producer Jaunt agrees. The company – which aims to produce “cinematic VR” experiences, including the show Invisible from The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman – announced at the Sundance film festival that is turning The Lawnmower Man into a VR series in partnership with rights holders Jim Howell and Rupert Harvey.

“The original movie was a film of unsurpassed imagination and creativity with its ground-breaking use of VR back in 1992,” Jim Howell said. “Together with Jaunt we look forward to a contemporary team bringing to life a whole new world of VR; a world of immersive entertainment and communication. We are very excited to be working with Jaunt to create a VR realization of the film.”

The Lawnmower Man is but one of five new VR series announced by Jaunt. The other shows are: sci-fi action thriller Luna from Adam Cooper and Bill Collage; The Enlightened Ones, a political sci-fi series written and produced by Tye Sheridan; Todd Strauss-Schulson’s stoner comedy Bad Trip; and sci-fi action-adventure Miss Gloria, from New York Times Bestselling author Daniel H. Wilson.
