GeIL Announced World’s First Real RGB Illuminated DDR4 Modules

We have seen memory modules with LEDs before, but none like the latest GeIL modules that come with full RGB features that can be controlled by motherboard RGB applications. The new GeIL EVO X series will launch first through NewEgg but they will also become available at other retailers down the line.

Previous memory modules with LED got the power through the memory slot itself which had the benefit of a clean setup, but it could also create interference, worse efficiency, and slower speeds. The new EVO X series uses a completely independent circuit board which eliminates the above issues and allows GeIL to release these DDR4 modules from 3000 MHz and all the way up to and above 4000 MHz.

The downside to these new modules, at least in my opinion, are the additional cables that you have to route. This could seriously impact the overall clean look of a system when you have to run cables to each and every memory module that you have installed. Sure, you could manually sleeve them to match the setup, but that’s a lot of work for a little extra RGB effect. So while I love the idea, the solution isn’t perfect.

Not everyone has a motherboard with RGB lighting control such as those from ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI, but that’s not a problem either. You can still connect it to a normal fan connector for power and use the slider on the top to select between seven different colours; breathing red, breathing green, breathing blue, blue, yellow, purple, and white.
