Zelda: Breath of the Wild Performance on Switch is Disappointing
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most anticipated games for the forthcoming Nintendo Switch – though, the game is also coming out for the now-defunct Wii U – and is set for release on the same day as the home/portable hybrid console. In a statement issued to IGN, Nintendo has confirmed the game’s resolution and frame rate for both versions of the game, and the performance of the Switch version is disappointing.
Nintendo revealed the following details on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for both Switch and Wii U:
- Both launch on the same day, March 3.
- Both have a frame rate of 30fps.
- Both versions of the game offer the same content.
- On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
- The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.
- The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
- Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.
- A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.
That Nintendo can’t make the premier AAA title for its new console 1080p/60fps is remarkable. While the Switch’s portable screen has a 720p resolution, it outputs to a TV at 1080p, but Breath of the Wild, at 900p, can’t even muster that. More egregious is the frame rate; while Breath of the Wild looks beautiful, it’s hardly GTA V, which runs at 1080p/30fps on both Xbox One and PS4.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set for release on 3rd March, the same day the Nintendo Switch goes on sale.
Who fucking cares? It’s going to be awesome, it’s technically a handheld and to have an open world game run that smooth in HD would require an even higher price tag.
in 2017 1080p is a freaking must, and 30 fps are so cheap
And once again people make the mistake of thinking about the Switch like an ordinary home console while it in fact is more of a portable / handheld one that if you want can plug in to your TV. Comparing the Switch with Xbox one and PS4 is like comparing Consoles to Gaming PC’s . This statement is as stupid as the ones about Consoles not being able to output 4k at 30 fps yet while the best gaming PC’s can at mostly 60 fps. And another thing. Sure Nintendo don’t have the graphics that other AAA titles get. But nowadays most other AAA titles with graphics don’t have even close to as good story telling and gameplay that Nintendo has. I will buy the Switch for the story telling and when i want to game AAA title with good graphics i will do so with the help of my GTX 1070.
OMG…ffs so what..lol. Its not disapointing, its still very functioning as a game…and BETTER functioning then the wiiU that cant even maintain 30 frames a second. Switch is a solid 30, and doesnt seem to skip a beat, even with explosions, so who flipping cares if its not at some standard of what some other consoles are at?..does this seem to affect gameplay alot? no..still smooth as butter. Some of the toughest nintendo critics said they were impressed.
Hitting a solid 30 is like saying you got laid with a raging semi.
Admittedly, I can’t compare it by myself, since even though I own a WiiU I preordered the Switch alongside with the game. Either way, the fact that I can take that thing with me, is enough for me to play it there. 2,5 hours of travel time is enough to play it on the way home.
Even though I’m driving by myself most of the time, I dare you to take your WiiU (which is perfectly fine, by the way) with you, when you’re away for the weekend and play Zelda BotW anywhere you want.
Again, if you play on the WiiU, that’s perfectly OK.
I look at it THAT way, when Twilight Princess came out for the Wii and the GameCube, we had the same discussion. Is it really worth buying the Wii?
Even IF the differences might be not so big, remember, it’s still one of the first games for that console.
What did you expect? A difference like Mario 64 and Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS4 Pro?
It’s basically the same game, so stop complaining and give Nintendo the love and respect they deserve. Instead of fighting about which version is the better one, or if we should be disappointed about the “not visible differences”, we should be happy that they even bothered releasing it on both platforms.
Just my 50 cents on the matter. Do with it, whatever you like.
And as far as it goes for developing that kind of game?
I think that development for that game started for the WiiU in the first place. So you could say, that the Switch Version is a port.
I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think it’s a possibility. Considering the time it took for the WiiU to get a new “original” Zelda-game.
