Rumours last week of a private equity firm set to purchase Corsair turns out to be true. Press releases sent out this morning confirms that Eagle Tree Capital now owns the majority share of Corsair Components from Francisco Partners and several minority shareholders. IMCO (Investment Management Corporation of Ontario) and the Honeywell pension are also co-investing alongside EagleTree Capital. The firm is acting on behalf of its private equity fund EagleTree Partners IV.
What Does this Mean for Corsair?
Part of the deal involves founder and CEO Andy Paul maintaining his role in the company. Paul also maintains a sizable equity stake. Started in 1994, Corsair successfully branched out from memory product lines to high performance computer components. They also continue to expand now including complete systems, having availability in over sixty countries worldwide.
According to Paul, the partnership with EagleTree will allow Corsair to continue to focus on keeping their loyal fans and accelerate investment in innovation. The partnership should also deepen the company’s capability in expanding their product portfolio further, allowing them to continue take advantage of the continued popularity of eSports and gaming.
The transaction is expected to close in the next several months, subject to customary closing conditions.
