Ubisoft Will Shut Down Online Services of Several Games In January

As games grow older, their player counts decrease and at some point, developers have to decide on whether it is worth keeping the servers running for so few people. Ubisoft has recently announced that they have come to such a decision and in January they will be decommissioning the online services for some of their older games.

Ubisoft Shuts Down Online Game Services

In a news post on the Ubisoft website, an announcement was made that the online services for several older games will be decommissioned across several platforms on January 25th 2024. Ubisoft states

“Decommissioning such services for older games is not something we take lightly, but is a necessity as the technology that drove those services has grown obsolete.”

It’s unfortunate to see these games go, but the amount of people it will realistically affect is very small and of course, the games are still playable, just not with their online features. A full list of the games that will be decommissioned in January can be seen below alongside their respective platform.

  • Assassin’s Creed II – Xbox 360

  • Heroes of Might and Magic VI – PC
  • NCIS – PC
