When it comes to professional gaming, you often find yourself on one of two sides. One where you realise that everyone can do the same things while the other side is when fantastic moves, set up and executed to near perfection by the team, leaves you wondering if you’ll ever be able to compete professionally. It would seem that the professional Smite team EnVyUs couldn’t quite believe the set up from opposing team SoaR when they resorted to a professional level rage quit.
Rage quitting is a term used to define when a player decides to leave a game early on, often in a fit of rage, before the results of the match are even known. Typically these happen straight after a battle or event in the game and during their game against SoaR, EnVyUs showed us all how you do it professionally.
After having lost the first in a best of three series, EnVyUs tried to get an early start and bonus to the game by using speed boosting items to get an early kill and steal from SoaR their jungle camp’s buff. From 1:17 you can see the series of events that ultimately cost the team and provoked the rage quit.
Sadly the pain didn’t finish after EnVyUs fed a single player, giving them the experience required to reach level 4 while the opposing team remained on level 1. The team were then hit with a fine, with section 4.1 of Hi-Rez’s competitive rules stating that surrendering before the 10-minute mark will end in “punitive measures”. In this case, the measures put in place was an $500 fine for each player on EnVyUs, but ultimately it cost the team even more with an announcement coming shortly after for both Ryan “Omega” Johnson and Evan “Snoopy” Jones who stated they would be leaving the squad. Citing that the team didn’t have the drive to become the best the name of EnVyUs is now considered with not only the unsportsmanlike conduct of leaving a game early but now with some of their players trying to get positions on other competitive teams, would you take a team that quits after 2 minutes?
