Faster SanDisk Extreme 400GB microSDXC Card Launched

A Faster 400GB SanDisk Extreme

Just half a year ago, SanDisk announced the world’s first 400GB microSD card. Now at Mobile World Congress 2018, they are announcing that this massive storage just got faster. The new Extreme A2 microSD UHS-1 microSDXC is approximately 50% faster than the original. It is rated as an App Performance Class A2 device, in comparison to the Class A1 of the original.

Although it is no longer the highest capacity microSD card (that honor now belongs to Integral with their 512GB microSD), it is significantly faster. Physically, it is also the same size and capacity as SanDisk Extreme 400GB from last year, but it can achieve up to 160MB/s read and 90MB/s write. Integral’s microSD card is only capable of reads up to 90MB/s in comparison.

What Can You Store in a 400GB microSD Card?

The 400GB capacity is beyond what most people are used to. It can house up to 88 full HD movies at 4.5GB each. It can store 16 full Blu-Ray images at an average of 25GB each. The capacity also provides room for up to 200,000 12-megapixel 2MB photos, or up to 100,000 4MB songs. The card itself is shockproof, waterproof, x-ray proof and can withstand a wide temperature range of -13F to 185F.

How Much is the 400GB SanDisk Extreme A2 microSD UHS-1 microSDXC?

The first version of the 400GB SanDisk Extreme microSDXC currently costs $249 to $299 USD. So expect the pricing to be a little above that. SanDisk did not reveal official pricing yet, but seller and pricing information should show up on the official product page once available.
