Der8auer Hits 5.0GHz with Intel Core i9-7900X on AIO Cooling

Overclocker Der8auer made a quick video giving a quick preview of what he was able to do with Intel’s latest Intel HEDT CPU. These processors are coming out in June 22, but many overclockers have the chance to play with it for a bit and see how far it can be pushed. So far, the results seem promising with Der8auer hitting 5.0GHz using an ASUS Rampage Apex motherboard and a Corsair 280mm AIO. Usually, extreme overclockers like Der8auer would resort to LN2 for higher overclocks, but these new KabyLake-X and Skylake-X CPUs seem very OC-friendly.

However, that 5.0GHz is actaully achieved after delidding the chip and replacing the TIM with Thermal Grizzly. Without delidding, users can expect 4.8GHz or 4.9GHz. That is with a 280mm AIO if they have a good chip. Otherwise, it will not be possible. Sure, its not as impressive as actually hitting 5GHz without delidding, but did you really expect anything different from Intel?

On the positive side, that is 5.0GHz on ALL TEN cores, and is Prime95 stable. The temperatures maxed at around high 80’s celcius. Without delidding, running Prime95 will immediately trigger CPU thermal throttling.
