Since the launch of such a hugely anticipated card with heaps of new technology, it was expected that some were going to be faulty/ problematic at first. Since the media had their samples, some noted in the independent reviews; a noise coming from the GPU, which could be coil whine or water pump buzzing. AMD had then confirmed that this issue was only in the initial batch of media sample cards and that the consumer cards would not suffer from this fault.
Well, now it seems that is not the case at all. A new Fury X owner has received his card and seems to have the same or similar sound.Here is the with and without Fury X videos for you to hear yourselves.

It’s not totally clear what that sound is, it doesn’t seem high-pitched enough to be coil whine, but the user didn’t adjust the pump speed to rule out pump noise. If it is either of those issues, it could make what has already come across as somewhat of a flop of a launch even worse. Let us know what you think that sound is in the comment section.

Yes. It seems that with the Fury X card you can’t have a quiet gaming experience when having your head in the PC case and the game sound muted.
That’s an inane comment. Coil whine or pump noise is NOT something that should be expected from a high end piece of hardware at this price point. The whole point of water cooling is to offer great performance with lower sound levels. Also, a high pitched noise is going to cut right through game noise and other hardware sounds. As for running it at load, that’s not likely to make much difference if it’s a pump noise, except for maybe making it louder.
No, it’s not. Some air cooling cards can offer lower noise at idle. That HIS ICEQ card is already a very good card in that area, not to mention for example the ASUS Strix line that offers 0 noise at idle. The big difference between air and water cooling is at full load. There, the above 280X will be more noisy, while the FuryX will not change much.
No it’s not to be from such an expensive piece of hardware, however, considering this card will only go to a select few with large bufgets, they probably own a headset anyway. That and their case with the panels closed would also help. Plus the game volume was down, which, when played on good headphones, will be in-audible.
Really, only home entertainment systems need to worry about sound, as many cards such as the ASUS, MSI, XFX and EVGA offer 0DBa on idle, and their the ones pushing 60FPS at 1080p.
It’s not coil whine, it’s the pump noise. I don’t think you can RMA that.
