Game Optimization and Messenger Software Raptr is No More

Game Optimization and Messenger Software Raptr is No More

Hardly surprising after AMD dumped them last year, but game optimization and social-networking software service Raptr is closing its doors after almost 10 years. The news is on the official page, written by founder Dennis “Thresh” Fong himself. Fong is a former Pro gamer and co-founder of X-Fire. It is a similar service, although it became a Viacom acquisition it in 2006. Shortly after, Raptr started in 2007.

The Eventual Death of Raptr

Game Optimization and Messenger Software Raptr is No More

The company forged partnership with both AMD and Intel, providing optimization and settings recommendation service to their GPUs. The addition of GameDVR hardware accelerated game recording feature also made it appealing. However, the use of 3rd party clients for these features did not last long. Both NVIDIA and AMD had integration in mind with their drivers, which made the software irrelevant.

The service will completely shut down on September 30th. However, existing users can still export their gameplay history. Simply follow the steps below:

  • Go to Raptr.com
  • Sign in to your account
  • Once you are signed in, click here to get your gameplay data.

The shut down does not affect Plays.tv services. Which will continue on as an independent company. In fact, they are separate January 2017.
