Patriot shows off the Phison-powered Magma SSD at CeBit 2012

American memory giant Patriot has been showing off a new solid state drive offering at CeBit 2012 this year. The Patriot Magma is a SATA III 2.5″ SSD that will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities. The Magma SSD line by Patriot will be powered by a controller from the company Phison Electronics of Taiwan. The drive is expected to come to market in Q2 of this year, so from April onwards but we don’t know price specifics except that it will be ‘value-orientated’. The drive has a MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) of 1.5 million hours which is backed by a 3 year warranty. Disappointingly Patriot provided no performance numbers whatsoever which would suggest that the drive is still being optimised and undergoing final testing before samples get send out for review.

For those who don’t remember this certainly isn’t the first time Patriot have attempted a Phison controller based SSD. The Patriot Torqx 2 SSD released back in mid 2011 was based off a Phison controller and dare I say it, was a total disaster. Lets hope Patriot have learned from their mistakes.
