Elden Ring Players Get Warned – Avoid Accepting ‘Gifts’ from Other Players!

Elden Ring

FromSoftware has always typically deployed a rather subtle means of dealing with people it thinks are cheating in its Soulsborne titles. Rather than just banning them from online gameplay, they instead give the person a server switch to put them in the same ‘dirty pool’ as other suspicious players. – You’re never given any official notification of this, it just happens. And, generally speaking, I can’t say that I’ve never heard many instances of them getting this wrong. Overall, it’s a system that does work fairly well.

For those of you who enjoy a little multiplayer or PVP action in Elden Ring, however, consider this an official warning to avoid any items that other players might drop. While we daresay that in most cases they’re just being friendly, it seems that a notable rise has been spotted in some malicious users attempting to get you soft-banned!

Elden Ring Players Warned to Avoid ‘Gifts’ from Other Players!

I should start by noting that those of you familiar with Soulsborne titles probably already know what I’m going to say here. – Presuming you don’t, however, following a report via PCGamesN, Elden Ring players are being strongly advised to not pick up any items dropped by other players. Well, except those you know and trust!

Now, in terms of encounters, in the vast majority of cases seeing another player drop something is probably just a nice person trying to help you along your quest. The problem, however, is that many people who have hacked the game have started dropping items which you should never legitimately be able to access. One of particular note is the ‘Brave’s Cord Circlet’ which, while located in the game data, was cut from the final release.

By even just possessing this item, however, this could flag your Elden Ring account with FromSoftware to get you placed in the ‘dirty pool’ meaning that you’d no longer have access to the mainstream ‘trusted’ servers. – And yes, you might pick it up, see it, know you shouldn’t have it, and dispose of it immediately. This is, however, still no guarantee that your account hasn’t already been flagged for possessing an item you shouldn’t legitimately have. – And this can also appertain to when people drop you a ridiculous amount of runes. If your level increases by around 30-40 within 10 minutes, FromSoftware does typically tend to notice!

Yes, it sucks. And yes, as above, this isn’t a new problem for Soulsborne. If you do, however, see a summon or PVP opponent drop something for you, resist the temptation and just leave it on the ground! Elden Ring is hard enough without getting pooled with known cheaters!
