Sony – No Man's Sky Could Become Game That Was Promised

Before its release, No Man’s Sky was subject to enormous hype, with expectations so high they were nigh on impossible to meet. Nevertheless, promises made by lead developer Sean Murray of Hello Games during the game’s pre-release publicity cycle were not met, and gamers were understandably disappointed upon playing the final release. A Sony Interactive Entertainment executive, though, has suggested that, with the Hello Games team still hard at work on the game, that we may one day see No Man’s Sky become the experience it was once advertised as.

“They’re still working on it,” Shawn Layden, Executive VP and COO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in a recent appearance on Live with YouTube Gaming (via TechSpot). “They’re still updating it. They’re trying to get it closer to what their vision was. And perhaps over time, it’ll reveal itself to be all that it can be […] you just don’t get all the way there at the first go.”

Layden also justified some of the over-promising that occurred before the game’s release, explaining that it was a sign of ambition on the part of the developers.

“No-one in development wants to say that they can’t do a thing, right?” Layden added. “No-one wants to tell someone no, I can’t do that for you. People really try. Looking at different industries I’ve had the privilege of working in, the games industry is where everyone has the courage to say yes. They want to try and realize their ambition; they want to try and make that vision.”

Whether there’s anyone still playing No Man’s Sky when its on-going development cycle ends, though, is another matter: the game’s user count on Steam recently dropped below 1,000 concurrent players.
