A couple of days ago, we reported on a new type of disposable battery for smartphones. A number of our readers pointed out that while being convenient, the batteries would probably end up being something very expensive that you inevitably throw away.

Well, now someone has what could possibly be a better solution – use your own 9-volt batteries to give your phone the energy boost it needs.

Meet the Plan V – a small, foldable device, that allows you to grab any 9-volt battery to give you up to an extra 4 hours of talk time on your smartphone. The product is part of a Kickstarter campaign aiming for $30,000 in funding.

The first version available uses MicroUSB, while an iOS compatible model will be available later. Backers can put forward $10 to reiceve theirs in February if the Kickstarter is successful.

  1. This is a great idea to spend a fortune by wasting 9V batteries and also create more toxic garbage. At the same time you can buy a power bank for almost the same price that you can recharge many times before having to recycle it.

Not all ideas in Kickstarter are good. They might look smart ideas, but as a final project they are just bad.

      1. I think they are more expensive than typical AA rechargeable batteries, take too much time to recharge and don’t have that much capacity. Just see the description on the article. One 9V battery gives you only 4 hours talk time. I bet that talk time is not with the worst phone in the market, but a top model like iPhone 6 that offers 14 hours talk time on a single battery charge or for example Galaxy A that gives 11 hours. So a single 9V will be like a 1000mAh power bank, if not much less, when you can buy with $10-$15 a brand power bank with 5000mAh capacity.

This is a typical product that expects to sell to everyone who just buys whatever sees and looks funny or smart. After the first test use, it will be forgotten in a drawer or go directly to the dust bin.

It looks easily portable on the keys, but in fact a 9V battery takes much more space.
