Neocities Give Middle Finger To FCC, Throttles Their Internet To 28.8Kbps

FFC Chairman Tom Wheeler is still trying to push his internet “fast lane” proposal to the worlds major internet companies, which would be the end of the internet as we know it if it were approved.  Thankfully, most people with at least a small bit of common sense know that it’s a stupid idea, one set in place to simply squeeze more money out of people. Web hosting company NeoCities know this, but instead of writing to the FCC to complain about it, they’ve decided to give them a taste of their own medicine and throttle the FCC’s internal IP address range to 28.8Kbps speed connections, hilarious!

“Since the FCC seems to have no problem with this idea, I’ve (through correspondence) gotten access to the FCC’s internal IP block, and throttled all connections from the FCC to 28.8kbps modem speeds on the Neocities.org front site, and I’m not removing it until the FCC pays us for the bandwidth they’ve been wasting instead of doing their jobs protecting us from the ‘keep America’s internet slow and expensive forever’ lobby,” NeoCities creator Kyle Drake wrote yesterday.

Drake went on to call Wheeler a “cable industry hand-picked lobbyist” and that said that the FCC is not protecting consumers because “they got a dump truck full of money from the cable corporation lobby.”

“If it bothers you that I’m doing this, I want to point out that everyone is going to be doing crap like this after the FCC rips apart Net Neutrality,” he wrote. “It’s time for the Web to organize and stand up against these thugs before they ruin everything that the Web stands for.”

All I can say is that Kyle Drake is a legend, and I can only image the looks of the faces of the staff at the FCC. Unfortunately, I doubt this will have a huge impact on these fast lane plans because people will still push forward for ideas that make them more money.
