CES 2022 to Close One Day Early Amid Growing COVID Concerns

CES CES 2022

With CES 2022 set to officially kick-off, back as a physical event, on January 4th, it’s no exaggeration to say that with the rise of fresh COVID-19 concerns, there had been some doubt that it would still be going ahead over the last few weeks. Admittedly, a last-minute cancellation did seem unlikely, at the same time though, it didn’t seem entirely out of the realms of possibility either. Particularly since many major tech firms confirmed that they would be withdrawing their ‘physical’ presence from the event.

With it set to start tomorrow, however, the good news is that CES 2022 is still going ahead. Following a report via AndroidCentral, however, it will be ending a little sooner than originally planned.

CES 2022

With the growing concern over the growth of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, and the fact that it’s hard to overstate just how huge an event it is (in terms of foot traffic), the organisers behind CES 2022 have confirmed that the show will now close on January 7th. A day ahead of the originally scheduled time of January 8th.

It is, however, hard to deny that the decision has almost certainly also been influenced by the fact that the following companies have already withdrawn their physical presence:

  • Microsoft
  • Google
  • Intel
  • Amazon
  • AMD
  • Twitter
  • Meta (Facebook)
  • and many others

Still Well Worth Checking Out!

Despite the fact that some big names are not going to be physically at the event, pretty much all of them will still be hosting some kind of online/virtual keynote address. With over 2,200 exhibitors currently arriving and presumably setting up in Las Vegas, however, CES 2022 is definitely back and with some major announcements expected, rest assured that while we will be taking the unusual step of not attending this year, we’ll still be here to bring you all the latest news as soon as it’s announced!
