Is 1.31kg light enough for a laptop? Samsung’s Ultraportable Laptop Unveiled

Samsung have recently been showcasing their new ultraportable laptop as part of their 9 Series at CES. It is a 13” laptop which weighs in at a mere 1.31kg and measures 16.3 mm in depth making it truly ultraportable. The specs are to be a low-power second generation (Sandy Bridge) Intel Core i5 2537M CPU, 4GB RAM, a 128GB SSD and battery life of ~6.5 hours.

For comparison, one of the lightest laptops on the market, the Apple Macbook Air weighs in at 1.36kg with most standard laptops weighing in at 2.5kg or more.

This is the laptop compared with one of Samsungs smartphones:

This laptop will also features Samsung’s SuperBright Plus technology for its display that promises twice the brightness compared to similar laptops, with a contrast ratio of 1,300:1. It does certainly seem to produce good results.

As far as we are aware it will be available from February with a price tag most likely around the £1,250 mark which would place it as a direct competitor to the Macbook Air.
