Elden Ring: Nightreign Won’t Repeat Concord or Suicide Squad’s Flop

Elden Ring: Nightreign Won't Repeat Concord or Suicide Squad's Flop

Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to take players back to the world of Elden Ring in 2025. Unlike some recent multiplayer games that struggled due to live-service issues, FromSoftware is confident this fully cooperative experience won’t face the same challenges. Game director Junya Ishizaki shared his thoughts in an interview with IGN Japan, expressing pride in the team’s work and belief in players’ positive reception.

A Different Approach to Multiplayer Games

Elden Ring: Nightreign Won't Repeat Concord or Suicide Squad's Flop

“Elden Ring: Nightreign is a very exciting game that will excite players. It will provide a sense of accomplishment and joy that is different from previous titles,” said Ishizaki. Addressing comparisons to flops like Concord and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, he emphasized a key difference. “Unlike those titles, Elden Ring: Nightreign is not a live-service game. It’s a one-time purchase with no ongoing costs. Because of that, we’re not concerned about it meeting the same fate as recent live-service flops. At FromSoftware, our priority is creating fun games. If the game is fun, we’re confident the audience will enjoy it, and that gives us peace of mind.”

Staying True to FromSoftware’s Vision

While Elden Ring: Nightreign might receive updates or DLC after launch, Ishizaki confirmed it will not include microtransactions, Battle Passes, or recurring content. As a traditional multiplayer game, it aims to appeal to both fans of the original Elden Ring and players who may have skipped the 2022 action RPG due to its high difficulty.

Despite its challenging nature, the game will allow players to tackle every battle with up to two teammates, making it a cooperative experience that FromSoftware believes will resonate with a wide audience.
