Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, founder of Minecraft creator Mojang has shared his thoughts on Twitter regarding how his life has evolved after selling up to Microsoft.
So, he must be enjoying his life right? Not as much as you might think as it turns out, one Tweet which is below outlines his predicament.
The problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying, and human interaction becomes impossible due to imbalance.

This sounds to be a person who did not have a plan once he left Mojang but rather self-defeated, long-term successful entrepreneurs always envisage the next venture, what will be next? How do I make it happen? To say that there is no reason to “keep trying” is an individual missing a huge opportunity, he has a big check book in order to constructively invest in many an avenue.
The appearance of wealth and fame isolates individuals to a point, there have been many a report of a celebrity spiralling out of control, but, the human being works at its best when it has routine, something to work towards and to plan your day around. Relaxing on a beach with “famous people” is fun at first, but it does not occupy a mind. Therefore, the more you party, the more you dip into self-loathing and concentrate on your regrets and problems.
This following paragraph may sound as if I am simplifying his next tweet too much, to paraphrase his statement, he mentions that he “met a great girl, but she went with someone else” Well, if that is the case then I guess it was not the right relationship and something did not click. If someone likes you then it should be for you, not someone’s money, not their lifestyle, not how many cars they have, but you. If two people want to know each other purely on financial means, then that is not what true love is, but a polluted bought notion of it.
Oscar Wilde coined a famous phrase, “There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.” Markus ‘Notch’ Persson is caught in this paradox; a huge wealth is not all you need but direction, motivation and also who you have around you.

Money doesn’t buy you happiness, but it goes a long way towards it 🙂 the happiness bit is what this article talking about, the fact he has money is merely a by product, the bigger issue now he sold minecraft he has no real direction, this is a guy who lived / breathed minecraft for many many years, then one day , nothing, he feels that he was badly advised to sell it to M$, personally the route woudl have been better if he had agreed to sell on the proviso he could continue as the CEO or something similar (see Richard Branson and his Virgin brand on how to sell for a lot of money but still have control over the company).
yes we would all like to have that kind of money, but, work hard and it will come (or so they say), i have the last 2-3 years been slowly building an online store, another person who started his about the same time was in february able to give up his fulltime job to focus on his own store, so whilst we both had the same idea/same reason he was luckier than me. But this doesn’t stop me dreaming of the day i can give up work and become my own boss, and that day will come, it might not be 2015/2016 even 2020 but one day i will be my own boss… and when that day comes i hope that a big conglomerate wants to throw big numbers for my company 🙂

The kind of business i have the skill set for requires initial investment, and i have nothing to initially invest.

So what exactly set of skills do you possess? You mentioned it two times I guess you are eager to share this info but don’t want to show your cards too early. Are they in great demand or maybe nobody needs them? Did you try to learn something else? You know, you can make initial money in something that doesn’t require a lot of investments and after continue with your mysterious business. Adapt. Nobody give you a damn cent until you prove that you worth it. Why should they? What country are you living in, btw? Is it USA? Then you are already lucky! It is a number one economy in the world, possibilities are infinite. If you are not good enough then learn more! Try! Do! Whatever! Regardless of what you say, AGAIN you know nothing about my personal situation, you know nothing about my life or my finances, yet you presume you can tell me that “i should do this or that or the other” or that i should think myself lucky to be born to a society that only benefits the rich and forsakes the poor, a society that requires you to shut the fuck up and take what ever job there is, those jobs are all minimum wage, and minimum wage is not enough to keep a family.

I was born into a working class single parent family, i was not afforded the luxury of higher eduction, i was not afforded the chance for university or college, i left school and was made to take a minimum wage job to help keep my family home, of the £110 i earned a week back then 80 went to my mother, leaving me with £30 to buy things for the 6 day i would be at work that week.
Yes, £110 is a lot of money in comparison to say somewhere like Zimbabwe, but the cost of living is also considerably more in this country too, and 16 years later, the minumum wage will earn me £208 a week after deductions, leaving me to try and keep a family of 4 on £208 per week, leaving me with ZERO spare money ever, in fact minimum wage is not enough to live on, i have to borrow small amounts most months just to make it to the end of the month.
So keep making your assumption about things you can not possibly know anything about before hand, keep telling people not to do exactly what you are doing, keep being a hypocrite, keep telling yourself you know everything there is to know about the world, keep assuming you are right, you sound like an Internet Christian, god is real coz i say so, and no amount of evidence to the contrary will convince you that you are wrong.
Finally, the type of skill i have requires qualifications on paper to prove them in the world of business, and as i previously stated, i have no formal qualification, what i know, i know via learning myself, and those skill continue to develop everyday. Without the paper to prove my skills, companies will not employ me simply because they require a piece of paper to prove my skills, even though i have proven myself to these companies when i have gone for interviews without the “required qualifications” and i have proven my skill set to them, they say sorry you lack the paperwork to allow us to take you on, even though you seem to know everything you would need to know to work with for us. When i tried to better myself by paying £5000 to a company to provide the course work to earn the qualification and to sit the exams to get that required paper in my hand, the company went bankrupt took my 5000 with it (they were in financial hardship when they took me on for the course but had been hiding it for a long time) leaving me with none of the money i had taken as a loan from a bank with the understanding that within the repayment terms of the loan i would be in a job that paid me at least £50.000 a year and the loan would have been easy to pay back. Obviously that did not go through and now im left with 5K of debt i cant clear, a dead end no hope minimum wage job, no prospects of being about to improve my personal situation because i have a family that i have to keep alive, my personal improvement is irrelevant because i need to make sure my wife and kids eat.

Have you read nothing i have said? I have no shit to get together, i have ZERO expendable income, i don’t even have what some people consider to be essentials, i do not own a TV or pay for TV Licence fees, because i cant afford to, i do not go out drinking alcohol or partying because i cant afford to, i do not go on holidays or spend money on things i want because i cant afford to, i do not own a car or a motorbike or any other form of transportation because i cant afford to, so i definitely can not afford to pay to get the only thing that companies who deal with my specific skill set accept as proof of those skills, the qualification, i cant afford to because i am stuck paying interest only on the £5000 i had as a loan to get the qualification in the first place. A lone which, if everything had gone the way it should have, would have been paid off and i would have been earning about 60.000 a year for 3 years by now, but not only that, as i have to keep my family on less than 10.000 a year after deductions i would have been able to save at least 20.000 by the end of the first year which would have been put straight into starting my own business and self employment the following year or the year after depending on the market and costs.
I have a 62 page business plant written out somewhere in my house from before i started the process, i have a clearly outline strategy for growing the business and expanding within the first 3 years to offer unique services that no other business similar to what i had planned offered, in short i was as well prepared to get everything going then everything went to shit.
Saying get your shit together to someone who has nothing, is like telling someone with depression to cheer up, you will illicit an angry reply.
When you are a slave to the money that our societies exist on, you can not simply do what you please when it comes to financial matters, if i miss as much as a single hour of pay, i will eat one less day that week, if i miss more than one, i will probably only eat 3 days of that week, assuming i want to be able to afford to pay for my travel expenses household bills and that i want to ensure my children are well fed, clothed and happy that is. You see when you have responsibility you can not just shit away stability in the hope of prosperity, i need to make sure my kids do not have the shit life i had as a child, i want to make sure they grow up to appreciate what they have and go on to college and university get good grades and then hopefully for their sakes good careers after that. Then and only then can i consider taking money to one side for my own selfish desires, so what if i desire my own business and so what if i have the capacity to do so much more than i am presently doing, the health and well being of my children and the upkeep of their home is more important, because only then will i have money that will be considered expendable income.
And once again no, im not looking for no sympathy from noone, i really could not give a fuck what anyone thinks about me as a person, because random people who do not know me on the internet can say as much about me as pleases them, does not change my situation even in the slightest.
At the end of the day this is all irrelevant, eventually i will make that business a reality, just not for at least the next 6 years until my eldest goes to college and my financial burden is lightened, once that day comes, i will be doing everything that i can to better prospects, until then however there is no point in me even considering the prospect, because of the things i have outlined already, unless of course, a better paying job comes along in the mean time, its not as if i do not spend 5 hours a week looking for better work, because that is exactly what i do.
P.S there is nothing natural about the selection processes in modern western society, you are either born into money, or you are born into the working classes with no money, and there is nothing natural about money, it has no intrinsic value, it only has the value placed upon it by us, the slaves to the system, you get up, you go to work, you come home, and go to sleep, wash, rinse, repeat, 6 days a week, if you are lucky you have expendable income to make this process a little more comfortable, but at the end of it all, the illusion of freedom is a good one, but an illusion all the same, if you chose to not participate, you would soon find yourself dead in a ditch, and if you try to make your life better, life fucks you over and leaves you with a debt that will not be repaid for years to come and a bad credit history because of that the prospects of getting credit to try and get those qualifications again is impossible. So i will have to wait until my situation is more suited to bettering myself.
Work 12/7, do more in a less time, optimize your routine, sleep 6-7 hours, use all saved time wisely, spend money wisely, stop being annoying people don’t like it, cheer up and show everybody you are not done yet. Rewire your mind to positive thinking. It’s not a rocket science and it’s all feasible, actually I’ve been living like this for 5 years by now and outcome is positive. Look I even learned your language just in time of commuting to work and didn’t pay a single pence for it. Once again, forget word “impossible”, do small steps, bite as much as you can but no more. Put aside your business plan and make a new more realistic one. Come back to your old plan as soon as you’ll be ready.

Even though this story is perfectly true I am of the mind that if you want something bad enough you will find a way to accomplish your goals, it’s what sorts out the dreamers from the doers and the reason that I will be back in work within a couple of years.
I havent read half of the comments in this little conversation but I get the gist of it and my advice is “if you want it , go get it as no-one is going to do it for you”.
