Akasa Helix Widescreen Notebook Cooler Review

Laptop coolers are becoming a very popular accessory as more and more people turn to using laptops as their choice of computer system. Laptops do have a reoccurring theme that nearly all get quite hot, this is due to their design and their compromise between thickness, size and airflow. Unfortunately, this is not too good for the components and more importantly your lap.

We have seen various designs hitting the market and the common theme is a nice large fan blowing air up towards the laptop and from first glance this looks to be very similar. Akasa don’t seem to have produced anything too revolutionary recently they seem to be coming up with products similar to their competitions (or their competitors are copying them very quickly) while aiming to outperform them for the same price. On the other hand Akasa led the way with their Akasa Venom CPU Cooler which has since been copied religiously.

Akasa are at the forefront of the PC components market and are well known for their ‘Superb Design and Engineering’. Currently their products range from CPU coolers and fans to cases and power supplies and several things in between. They are a company who are very aware of its target market and as such tend to produce products that are very popular, like the Akasa Venom for instance.

  1. Is not that quiet at pros?Cooling laptop stands aren't efficient whith laptops with small amount of venting holes at the bottom of notebook. And also there is problem with distortion of air flow under laptop. (hope i wrote it clear – my english isn't good). It's better to rise laptop by placing something under. and after warranty if you don't care about look of laptop case, removing few parts of grill on intake and output can make big difference (changing thermal compound and modding laptop case gave me ~5*C delta at stress.Regards :)HeXeN

Whoops! That one slipped through the net! Cheers.Yeh, they never will be very good, in my view they are pretty pointless. I added a larger 6-cell battery to my laptop and that raised my laptop up to a nice level and has improved the cooling quite dramatically (as well as improving battery life to 4+ hours)Simon
