OCZ unveiled a new series of SSDs yesterday, not that anyone in the tech world really noticed because this launch from OCZ was totally overshadowed by the GTX 780 launch from Nvidia.

The new Vertex 450 series released by OCZ is based on the company’s own proprietary Indilinx Barefoot 3 M10 series controller. The Vertex 450 series SSDs will run on SATA III and use 20nm NAND flash to offer up to 540MB/s read and 530MB/s write. OCZ are quoting 4K random write performance of up to 90K IOPS.

OCZ are also saying that the Vertex 450 has AES-256 encryption and power optimisations. The Vertex 450 series of SSDs are just 7mm thick and feature an alloy housing for compatibility with the latest thin form factor notebooks on the market. OCZ are also bundling a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adapter, as well as Acronis True Image cloning software. This has been updated with Windows 8 support and is designed to assist with moving your operating system quickly to the new SSD.

Capacities will be 128GB to 512GB (meaning no over provisioning) and OCZ are backing them with a 3 year warranty.

No pricing or availability details yet but we will update the article when we get them.
